Ode To Maya Angelou

Maya,

I will always miss you.

A great tree is who You were,

Roots surging past jagged stones,

Steady, sure, sifting

Through the gravel in my bones,

Waking each cell,

Feeling each bruise,

Absorbing life’s

Battered branches sprouting with light,

And giving me strength,

And breath to breathe,

A beacon in a dark land,

Hope, when all seemed broken,

A free bird soaring,

Picking up the pieces of my heart

Where your cage fell apart,

Following the drinking gourd.

In your trail of living water

I live

In your promised land,

And though you didn’t know me

Your voice was familiar to me,

Comforting, warm like honey,

A resilient old negro spiritual,

Surging, throbbing beyond southern soil,

A thriving river soft like tear drops,

Yet strong,

Running deep where cuts lashed with sorrow

Tangled in veins, and skin, and memory.

Your words healed me with your passion,

Woke me with self-compassion.

You are the rising spirit on the backs of history,

You are the dark ocean moving,

Threading a journey into tomorrow.

Bright diamond,

In the star studded sky,

Lead the way to water,

And I will follow.

Venus Haiku and Haiku Healing

IMG_20140404_053633_727-1

Day 4: Venus Haiku

There she is again

Sweet pulsating sensation

Heaven’s deity

You have always been

Ahu of my horizon

Venus of my heart.

Day 5: haiku healing

Teach me to be healed

My fibers are your fibers

Green earthly petals

Ode To Uhaloa

Day 6:

Ode To Uhaloa

You, who draw from the well of being,

Breathe in with your roots,

The elements that keep us all alive,

The soil we consume, the air we breathe,

The connective space that holds all together,

Not empty,

But full,

Extending, reaching in adulation

To the light

To be crystalized, glistening rich

with oils and fine hair like velvet,

Small but vibrant,

Insignificant yet radiant,

Offering,

Sacrifice,

Giving,

Gift,

I ask permission

To take, to taste, to hold, to absorb, to internalize, to breathe out with you on my lips,

On my skin, on my tongue and finger tips,

I Thank you.

still waters

mauna loa setting

be still my heart

as a mountain absorbed

in mist, in rain, in sun,

her beauty grounded

in her own knowing.

be still

as the spirit stilled the sea,

still my heart,

so I can simply be

here, present, believe

those tears that grace my face

are not mine,

or in reality,

selfishly,

about you or me,

with all the troubles in the world today,

these tears are

just a seeker’s trail,

her heartstrings journey

bound

through ancient time

til’ now,

her still waters,

living waters,

still waiting to be found.

Sparks of Light

IMG_20130416_064004_835-1-1

There are those sparks of light

That spin brilliantly in dark skies,

lighting a galaxy of shadows

moving deliberately forward,

intentionally, indefinitely,

in a constant of planets,

a symphony of chaos,

a cacophony of beauty,

bridging this world and the next,

only for the asking,

only for the seeking,

only for the waiting,

with quiet minds open,

ready for receiving.

Ho`oponopono

Punalu`u, cloud reflection in tidal pool

Punalu`u, cloud reflection in tidal pool

Taste the moss,

Steep the leaves,

Grate the bark,

Pound the essence with a stone,

In a wooden bowl made of tree, and sky, and earth.

We are the healers of our own souls,

Caretakers, travelers of our own worlds,

But have we found that all paths lead

To the one called truth,

That awakens before dawn

In the touch of another’s hand, in the corridors of eyes

Vibrant with life, and color, and movement

We are our own reflections of each other

In tidal pools, in water and stone texture,

Elements reaching together,

A collective consciousness,

Despite worlds,

And beyond conflicts to a calm place,

Open and still,

Stones absorbing heat and clatter,

Sacrificing,

And ready to be thrown back

To the sea,

The source from whence we all came.
