“Word-Hoarder” Awoken

I try to hear a word in passing,

And pause, looking back

To you,

“Word-Hoarder”

tapping that

Space,

Between breaths,

Silence,

before noise,

matter,

My mind

A surreal zone

Trapped in rough bark,

Plunging in

a vision without emotion,

Stunted roots without time to sprout.

How do I live without love,

How do I feed my heart

Without poetry,

A barren limb alive without living,

An Empty cavern dark without phrases,

A broken chant without sound or meaning.

I ask, I demand drumbeats

Driving sharp spikes inward,

Bleeding roots ripping spirals

Of heart breaking turf’s fresh soil,

Up-turned earth ploughing

Unmarked graves of words,

Gutted and unburied.

There is no place to turn but you,

A sleeping phantom of deep seed knowing,

An ancient tree with severed branches growing,

An awakening of a thousand sunrises glowing red

Chanting on the tip of a copper tongue,

Shaking free a universe of stars for words,

Pleading with an empty bowl,

Please,

Poetry for food that my heart might be fed.

Wild Swan Cry

IMG_20140131_185308_762

She steps away from chaos

And the ache

That comes from too many words

Or not enough

Breathing out

Releasing

Smoke hovering

Disappearing into spring air

Blue black with night

she leans

Her shadow reminiscent of daylight

Her soul drifting in starlight

And the sound of wild swans

Crying with urgency

Breaking the silence of darkness

Like her heart

Wanting, needing, knowing

Soaring in a timeless movement

She is arriving, migrating

Like her thoughts

to a warmer place.

Raining Again: Fourth Ode Allusion

IMG_20140303_064335_333-1-1

It’s raining,

A steady pattering, drumming, pounding, dripping,

An opulent message from the most divine,

Aphrodite’s heart-beat on the land,

Love’s Law binding an earthly exchange,

Earth and sky, fire and water,

Lips and tongues, soul and mind,

Her swelling heart welcoming the rain,

Those glittering eyes of desire,

Guided by the Goddess’ own hand,

To embers stoked in immortal power,

Sacred water at the lips of Earth’s warm embrace,

An insatiable heat, an unstoppable blood throb,

An impatient tongue’s taste for fire,

Fate reigning on tangled hearts,

A destiny set at birth,

Stars aligned for an eternity,

Love’s Law storming at the gates of love’s free will

In libation to her thirst.
